adding in custom fields for registration

Is there any easy way to add a custom field to the required fields for link submission? I want to add some type of captcha to mine, but I only want it to be a static amount of text so it's easy to see and people won't have problems with it -- but at the same time I don't want automated submission. I'm hoping to just add a custom field with text next to it making sure people know what to input into it...

go into your admin panel and set your capcha preferences.

you can make it easy to read, mediocre, or hard.
use alpha, alpha-numeric

etc etc.
