I currently have one directory in a particular nihce. I would like to seperate that niche into two sperate landing pages, one for customers and one for businesses such as manufactures.

For example, lets say I have a candle directory with listings to many candle sites selling canldes. Then in the same directory I have a business category for businesses that include listings to suppliers and manufactures. I want the supplier category to be a seperate landing page, linked from my home page. But then I would want the supplier category hidden in the candle site directory, so customers don't accendently choose it.

Can this be done without installing another directory on the same domain? Thanks.

I would say you would probably be able to do it with one site and 2 databases and some smarty guru could code which database to use dependent on which page you cam from.

Other then that I would think it would be a lot of coding for someone to make it work of the one database.

Easiest way would be 2 installs as you suggested. maybe on sub domains

I think you are going to have different installs. One problem with sharing the same database would be that both customers using the search field will also get listings intended for the other. There's no way to avoid this unless like Psyclones said you get customized coding or install a diff attended directory for each customer group.

Thanks for the posts. I will have to re-think how I want to do this now. Because Now I have three seperate landing pages, I added a regional service directory too. I guese it would not be that big of a deal if customers saw the suppliers category too.

I might be able to mod the search a little, to exclude certain phrases like suppliers, then on the supplier page I could limit the search to only one category... We'll see, I think I'm trying too many things at one time.

I did a quick search but did not find a mod for users to sign up. Is there a mod for this? That would also solve my problem by limiting access to certain categories unless you are registered.

Hmm interesting idea to limit views via user accounts, im not a coder however i can appreciate a smart solution :)

For v2 there is no independant mod for user accounts.
*However V3.03 now has user accounts which im sure you could tamper with to do what you want.*

Check out the phpld3 (http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=20) forum for more info.
Although it is behind with announcing the release and features of 3.03. The supporters forum is more up to date.
