View Full Version : Occasional problem with Heading, URL of link, Age of post

Good morning.

Some of the items listed on my NewsTopica 2.0 site have errors.

Here is a screenshot from what is currently @
{broken url removed}

It displays, as the heading:

Content visible to registered users only.

But "PRODOS Project Blog" is the name of the blog - not part of the heading of the article.

Content visible to registered users only.

This part is the heading of the article.

So it looks like The NAME of the blog seems to have gotten stuck to the HEADING of the article.

I note that this is the first article on the blog site at present.

The other articles don't seem to have this problem. They get presented properly.

The URL of this "hybrid" heading is preseneted as:

{broken url removed}

But it should be:

{broken url removed}

The site seems to have pasted together the BLOG address with the ARTICLE address:

http://prodos.thinkertothinker.com + {broken url removed}

The age of the article is presented as:

Content visible to registered users only.

But this article is actually from yesterday.

At the end of the article, the bit that says:

Content visible to registered users only.

... also has the wrong link.

Any thoughts on this?

Is there anything we can do about correcting this problem?

Thanks!

hey guys... just wanted to ask you whether or not you upgaded or did a fresh install.

i had some veru odd problems with the heading where it was including tag: and also cluster=685132468343

since i really hadn't done much with teh script to that point(other than install and just let it sit without setting anything up hahah) i reinstalled with the new version, and everything works fine other than the sorting by hits/pr/alpha, on sub cats.

there is a lot of "diversity" in the way rss feeds are produced. It might be good to show a link to the actual feed so we can see the dates given.

My site is a newly installed NewsTopica 2.0

My install is new as well. I received the file from an email dated 3-17-06 version 2.0.

When I import a feed, the channel title and channel link are combined with the item title and item link of the first item in the feed. This happens consistently.

an example feed is the Topic Front Page feed. http://rss.topix.net/rss/topstories/topstories.xml
I selected the rss 2.0 type and the first item from the feed reads:

Front Page - Topix.net Topix.net Bush still believes victory possible in Iraq

instead of:

Bush still believes victory possible in Iraq

This is a combination of the channel title and the title of the first item.

I've tried a variety of feeds..same thing happens each time.

Also, every time the feed is imported, if there are new items, the first item will be combined with the channel title and link again.

Howdy!

I visited http://rss.topix.net/rss/topstories/topstories.xml but couldn't see an example of this problem.

Have you been able to fix it? Or is it not showing up for some other reason? (Or is it actually there but I need more coffee before I can see it? :) )

BTW, a very nicely formatted site! It looks great! :)

Best Wishes,

PRODOS

I tried to view the source of the page, but it would not let me. I suppose one possible solution would be to allow an alternate date that is equal to the time of the import, rather than the time reported by the feed itself.

David,

Perhaps you can provide an example feed that I can try on my site. A feed that you use to test with...so we can eliminate whether its the formatting of the feed or an issue with my install of the script.

So far I've tried feeds from Topix.net, Technorati.com, Reuters.com all with the same result. The channel data is getting combined with the item data in the feed.

Prodos,

The link was to the feed I tried to import into my site...not my actual site. Sorry for the confusion.

I think I am seeing what you are saying now about it importing channel info instead of link info. I will try to see what can be done.

Thanks,
David
