Hi,
Firstly, thanks for the script. I love my new directory.
http://www.hitfix.co.uk/environment
I would appreciate you comments on it as i haven't ever tried to put anyrhing like this together before - so it's been lots of fiddling about with CSS and so on.
I know that the logo looks a little ropey and will try to rectify it - but am very interested in your comments on the rest of it. Any improvements on colours and set out will be welcome.
Thanks, Jez.

stickman373 - something I just thought of: I would be careful of displaying google ads on the pages where you have yet to get entries for - I have e feeling that this may break the adsence TOS (though I am no expert by any means).
Meant to say as well, that it loks good.

There is one TINY little thing that is driving me crazy that I can't seem to fix. When you're on an inner linklist page the "Links: Sort By: Hits Alphabetical" part is way over to the right and anything I did to try to move it on the inner pages screwed the layout for the other pages. Any insight would be appreciated.

There's a bit of code that comes up in the recip box when I submitted the link. I have a feeling that my recip didn't match it exactly. If you change the bit of code that comes up there to say just YOUR url or just the anchor, then it gives people more different ways to enter your url, and it's the fact that the link is there that you wanna verify, after all. You'll have to bug Casey to find out how to do that. I dunno, since I don't require reciprocals (there seem to be some penalties coming down from google on that issue . . . I've chosen to avoid them)

well, i don't know about this one. the looser solution (the only one i can think of at least) is to just "paste" the picture into the original one in photo shop- i should be centered correctly then..

Hi everyone,
I've just installed phpLD two days ago on two sites, and here are the proud results:
TeaWithEdge.com Links Directory (http://www.teawithedge.com/directory/) - which is a section of a larger site, a Marketing portal
and
MarketingWHO - Marketing Links Directory (http://www.marketingwho.com) which is a standalone links directory dedicated to Marketing-related sites only.
Thanks for the script, I've decided to try it on after a long contemplation of the options, and haven't been disappointed. With some tweaking and customization, this script is very promising.

I know a person with 1and1 hosting had a lot of trouble with this. After a few HOURS of trouble shooting, we arrived at the following code for .htaccess:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-l
RewriteRule .* index.php [QSA,L]
It might be worth a shot.

Just a word of warning... Google nearly nailed me to the cross the other day because I said something like this in another forum back in January. It took them a while to find it, but when they did, they nearly canceled my adsense account. You can read more about it on seochat forums.
Thanks for the heads up. I didn't know.
My first directory site is open, www.2ListNow.com I really like this script. Just been open for two days and I have 152 links added!
Just wish my column problem was cured, if anyone knows how to stop the never-ending column please email me: jayg123@gmail.com
thanks

Hi Guys,
Just did a new directory www.AllGoodSites.com, using phplinkdrectory script and it works great. With a bit of help from the forums, and great support all went pretty smooth.
Seems a bit early though since the site still requires lots of work to really pick up traffic, but I think its good enough to be announced.

I would suggest to you and anyone running this directory software to eliminate the verification ID code from the submissions. I also run a number of directory websites. Whenever I try to add a reciprocal link back to your site, I am unable to add the "id=xxxx" from my listing, and the submission always gets rejected.
I would love to exchange links with everyone running a directory site, but it is near impossible to do it with sites that use this code.
Just a suggestion.

Mike, thanks for the tip ;).
I turned it off. The only reason I had it on was because I had been receiving some spam that I didn't want to sift through. But if it causes problems for legit sites the spam is worth sifting through.
If anyone wants to trade links please let me know, I am currently a PR3.

I just went to your site and I guess I wasn't as clear as I should have been, sorry. The code I was referring to is this: http://www.mmalinks.com" id="R601819"> for the reciprocal link. The last part of that string (id-xxxx) is what keeps your directory from verifiying the link exists. It's OK to have the verification code at the bottom if you wish.
Hope this explains it better.

Probably the same reason why he/shes' hiding behind one of those anon domain sellers. Well done for naming and shaming! P.S. This for the attention of the owner of http://www.warpocity.com you are in breach of international copyright laws by wrongfully claiming other people's intillectual property as yours. Well done, a smart and simple layout, just one comment though and please don't take offence but if you are going to say The most comprehensive human edited search engine friendly web directory offering reciprocal and paid listing services. Ad sponsoring, ad buying, banner ads, text ad links for small and big web site owners are welcome.
You really need to back that up and I don't think you've done that by showing this down the bottom of the page... Pending Links: 28 Active Links: 73 Categories: 992
Its all down to detail, you've made a stunning looking site but don't spoil it by making innacurate claims even if they are well intentioned. I know for a fact that Google and others hate this kind of thing and can flag you for this! Apparently its all down to their quest to list quality sites..
Good luck though, a great job!

The directory look nothing like the screenshot I put up the other day. With everyday that passes, I learn something new, and try to fully incorporate that into the new template I'm working on.
If you want to see what it currently looks like, click here (http://www.sarcastick.com/temp/revamp.gif).
I would prefer not to post the link as it's still a work in progress, but once it's done, it will obviously go in my sig :)

Will someone tell me if AbiLogic's Directory is PhPLD made?
No, it is not, but I can tell you that we have been adding some of it's features to phpLD 3.0 (ex. we can now display Latest or Most Popular Categories). Next we will be adding the ability to grant user accounts where they can login to request modification of links.

Nice, went looking on there and got to this link http://www.altsearch.com/art/body_art/piercing/ It appears there is an overlay of your text onto the alexa pics? Might want to do something about that. This was viewing in ie6

Any idea what is causing it? The records are virtually identical and I can't see how my sites templates or css could be causing it.
Thanks,

Would it look better a tiny bit away from the top? I'm only quoting my Daughter who knows it all as she just got her master degree in graphic design :) Super proud of her, and your site is nice, header is A* I do agree with my Daughter though
Only an opinion though mate, just an observation, and your call.

It actaully does look better away from the top but that is merely an opinion, what you think is the most important. :) Really nice header, looks the part with the bground color.
Kev
graphic design != web design
it looked better the other way Optimit.
When you have text without any type of background at the top, setting your margin to ... 3 or 4 is good practice. (google.com as an example on the upper right-hand side).
This would also be done if the background of the tippy top will differ from the rest of the sites background, but has text along the top of it. it would be a <td> most likely, so you'd just valign="bottom" and can also give it that little margin.
When you begin a website with a graphic header, setting margin:0px; is the best practice, depending on your design (in your case, it would be best), in a case such as a design like http://wordpress.com/ the latter would apply.
I'd tell you i own and operate over a dozen successful online stores, write my own mods, have a degree in business, degree in design(print, web etc etc), and i make 500K a year, but does that really matter?

Haha, I almost always set body margins to 0. To me, it just kind of helps take the guesswork out of header object placement. If I want text to be 10px from the top, I dont like having to remember 10px of header + 5px of dead space..
Anyway, since it was suggested, I changed it. After all, everyone sees things from a different prospective. I design all the time, and I am ALWAYS open to suggestions.
Thanks guys.
;)

Maybe its just my side but on the submit page the visual confirmation graphic code fails to show up. Just the outline of where it should be. Few refreshes dosen't seem to resolve it either.

your reading comprehension as well as your esp appear to be 'in sync', as neticus did state which page.

My reading comprehension is evidentally better than your sense of humor, which clearly is non-existant. I knew that page was unchanged, which is why I said so in a follow up. Hey, go figure!
Your post had nothing to add. If you don't have anything useful to add, then don't bother.
