Hi. I was going to use another directory script but the file perms had to be changed to 777, which my host (hostgator) would not permit because it supposedly would cause some security issues. Would I have the same issues if I purchase phpLD Version 3?

We install phpLD at hostgator all the time. If you hostgator is giving you a problem, you could use 700 as well, but honestly I have used 777 at hostgator many times. In phpLD, the only files that use 777 are temp files, and the way the temp files work for our cache, phpLD checks to see if they need to be changed before displaying them, so even if a hacker somehow altered them, they would never be displayed. I think the same would be true for the other directory script too, but I am only familiar with how we do it with phpLD.

Thanks,
David

Thanks for responding. Hmmm... So it can be done. I am a bit dissatisfied with the lack of help on the part of the Hostgator techs on just about any issue I have had, so it may not even be a problem after this week.

Use 755 as the install txt says to for hostgator (just as many security issues using phpsuexec but it makes them feel all warm and fuzzy inside :) )

20% off in my sig ;)
