View Full Version : Duplicate URL in 3.3

I've searched for close to 2 hours and haven't found a definitive answer on this. In Link Submit, I have Allow multiple submit to yes because I do want members to submit their URLs in different categories if applicable, but the "trouble" I'm running into is people adding their same URL into the same category two or more times, thinking they are top posting for more exposure. Is there a way or an existing mod (here or otherwise) that searches to be sure that a duplicate link or submission in the same category doesn't already exist before the new submission goes live and active?

no ... I think we can address that though. I will have to do some testing so it wont be tonight :)

James, just checking up... any status on this perhaps? I got knucklehead posters that still repost their URLs in the same category and I'm spending more time deleting them than anything else. Thank you for your time.

:oMaybe i've misunderstood the problem but why not just set Check Domain Only: to 'Yes'
From the settings page under link submit
Content visible to registered users only.Isn't this what you need?
Admin >> Settings >> Link Submit >> Check Domain Only set to yes.
I hope this helps

Content visible to registered users only.Mike, once you've submitted microsoft.com, you couldn't add anything else pertaining to that exact domain, no matter what else followed the URL. That's the problem. If I enable "Check Domain Only", this blocks every submission and being that my entire link directory is based from only one domain, this presents the problem I have.
Case in point, since my directory is solely based on one domain only, I can't accept /link_id4.php if /link_id3.php already exists in the directory in that very same category. "Check Domain Only" prevents additional links from the same domain (in this example, test.com) from submitting in the same category.
What I'm trying to achieve is leaving Check Domain Only to No like I have it currently, however a script that queries the database for that exact link and if there's an existing match, it prompts the user that the link they're attempting to submit already exists in the database in that category.

:o My Mistake. This would, of course, work for others if people were trying
to add from more than one domain but obviously this isn't the case for you. My bad. That wasn't clear, at least to me, from your original question.
Do your users have to be logged in to submit?
All the best
Mike :D

Nothing on this yet, I still would like someway, a small script to remove duplicates in the same category.
I know you are very busy so I will wait.
Thanks,

Post-holiday bump. Fellas, I'm willing to pay to have a solution for this. I'm cleaning this problem up almost daily so I don't know what the going rate is for something like this, but I'm very interested in getting this done.
Ironically, the admin panel won't allow you to enter the exact same URL in the same directory twice, so I know this is possible. Maybe a little guidance or PM me for an offer for paid assistance, please.

I could be talking over my head here, but the Spider in 3.2 seems to check for duplicate links - maybe that code could be tweaked for this.

^^ It's a start, but we'd have to find a front-end solution for this and apply to submit.php to query the database. I'm hoping a super-coder here wants to lend a had with this as I'm sure I can't be the only one wishing for such a solution.
