James
12-05-2008, 04:39 PM
No I sleep at times amazing as that is.

Your host is running a non standard config and as such I will have to experiment until I find the correct answer.

ricky776
12-05-2008, 04:53 PM
ok i hope you can manage to sort it out

ricky776
12-06-2008, 12:30 AM

Patience is a virtue. James has already said he is looking at it, even though the problem appears to be your hosting.

Just 7 hours ago: Content visible to registered users only.

To be honest, if you can't get this working on your hosting, I would seek a refund from your hosting company and go elsewhere. There's nothing wrong with the script!

Bruce.

i spoke to my hosting company and they said its to do with yourselfs but i guess i will wait and see what james comes up with

James
12-06-2008, 12:57 AM
I will get it working ...

BUT I want to make it clear

IT IS your hosting company configuration no doubt about it.

Not a huge thing just not standard is all.

I mean it runs on crappy godaddy hosting out of the box
1and1 with one edit (remove the #)

and the list goes on and on ...

BUt no worries ... IT will work.

ricky776
12-06-2008, 01:20 AM
james thanks its just such a pain when i email my hosting company and i get no were

James
12-06-2008, 01:22 AM
I suggest relocating once the contract or term is done Bruce can suggest some nice ones located in the UK

ricky776
12-06-2008, 01:30 AM
i own a a couple of online companies and we have our own dedicated servers with the same company and there really good any probs and they sort it stright away no worries but the guy i normaly deal with is back next week but as this is on a differnt server (shared) he might not be able to sort it

i would put it my own server but its only a temp project for a 3way linking project to see how it runs so just using a basic shard hosting package

PM me if you want a reasonable UK host. All my sites are with this particular UK based host and I have had very little trouble at all. When there have been minor glitches they have been very quick to respond.

Just for info, I don't make anything from referring you there. I just happen to know someone who provides better hosting from them and cheaper than their listed price. I will just put you in touch with them and you deal with them direct. :)

Bruce.

Well my friend

Zeus Web Server

mod_rewrite don't work right out of the box as zuess has different rulesets

ask your host to convert them with the built in utility that is with the zues server ....

I do not have access to that.

they should have told your that it was zues and that apache rewrite rules will not work.

James
12-06-2008, 01:43 AM
I am going to try and get someone to get me full access to a zues server. Please give me 72 hours.

ok no worries ive re emailed me hosting company saying what yo last said too

ricky776
12-06-2008, 10:13 PM
hey james

that error has changed now its says page not found on this server

what you think

ricky776
12-06-2008, 10:39 PM
i have just got this back from my hosting company

Good Afternoon Ricky,

Thank you for your email. The 404 Page not found is caused simply by the site trying to direct you to a page that doesn't exist. I've checked in your hosting and the different folders it seems to be trying to direct you into just don't exist which is why this is happening, this is going to either be caused by some of the site having not been uploaded yet or mis-configured script.

Unfortunately I was unable to recreate the slow page issue, the site loaded normally for me, not instantly, but that is usual behaviour for a site doing many SQL queries to load a single page.

Should you require any further assistance, please feel free to contact us.

I would like to point out that our script is "configured" on literally thousands of servers and works just fine. It sounds to me like mod rewrite is either not an option on the server, or there is something special about this server. If it is indeed Zeus, it is special. It might make sense not to use mod rewrite if that is a possible solution for you.

ricky776
12-06-2008, 11:00 PM
so what do i do now then

David
12-06-2008, 11:16 PM
Sounds like following up with James is your best bet now. There are some methods for rewriting URLs on Zeus, but it may take some trouble shooting. Getting a cheap hosting account in a more common environment would be a faster solution.

ricky776
12-06-2008, 11:19 PM
i guess i will see what james comes up with

David
12-06-2008, 11:27 PM
ok, good luck. :)

James
12-06-2008, 11:42 PM
I am still on it.

Your hosting company is truly clueless

I mean that.

Zeus server ships with a script that allows conversion of rewrite rules.
Their response tells me they are totally clueless about zeus.

Anyway I am still working on getting the rules rewritten .. hopefully soon

Bruce's suggestion of hosts are as good as mine we both speak from experience.

Mine is US based and Bruce's is UK.
IF your demographic is UK and the EU then I would use an UK host.

Yes I will help you get going on a decent host.
