Hello all,

Has anyone had experience with a mySQL database of over 1 million entries, using phpLD?

If so, what kind of dedicated server config was used - as in CPU, RAM, Harddrive, and/or clustered etc. ?

Another question - for other large DB's of around 250K entries and up, how well did phpLD perform for you - with your server specs ?

Thanks in advance - Cheers!

Need to ask this in the community for them to be able to answer.

I can say from experience I can optimize a dedicated to handle large sites with large traffic.

Not all hosts are capable of that even some techs at the planet ;0)

Do you have an example site running or is this just a want to know question?

I have mySQL DB's with over 1 million rows/entries (on my computer) - I am 1stly trying to find an easy way to remove duplicates, as there are probably approx. 15-20% dupe's. I've been researching different dedicated servers, and found a company I am willing to try out. So no, at present no live site - I want to find out before I go live.

However, was speaking with a tech, and was told that with a database over 250K (not to mention 1 million) - you need to have a server with a couple Quad core Xeons, scuzzie drive, and atleast 16MB Ram, and preferably clustered - OR - the server will not be able to access and display the database. It will crash on anything less than those specs.

Is there truth to this? Just want to hear other experiences, and what would be the minimum specs needed for the script and DB's to run smoothly.

THANKS!

I've seen 1 million+ categories on a shared host. Usually you need dedicated because of server load, which is usually a result of traffic making lots of queries to the db, but not because the db itself is a little large.

So, the tech was trying to upsell me ?

I just want to make sure before I go through all this.

Thank you!

PS: This is also to look at the future if/when I get heavy traffic and queries to the DB, of course.
