Hi all,

I am completely new in this link directories business and I was wondering whether someone might be willing to put in words what the benefits are in getting a links directory.

I have a domain and hosting already and I am thinking about the best way of using it. Could you please sell the idea to me??

Cheers!

Benefits would include:
1. Charging for links. Most directories either offer free regular links, and paid featured links (appearing at the top of the category, or they charge for all links. Some directories start our free so they will get know, and then start charging as their site grows.
2. Charging for ads, such as on the homepage.
3. Getting links pointing to your site, because there are a lot of people who track directories, and most likely they would add your directory to their list.
4. Adsense can also bring in some revenue.

Those are some of the more immediate benefits.

Thanks David.

I know that this might be a bit difficult to know, but I wonder if someone can provide some rough numbers. How much money should a links directory would make in the first year? second year?

Many thanks again

This really varies widely. There are some people who come up with a great idea for their niche or region, or already have built a business for which the directory is a supplement, and make pretty good money from the start. There are others who fail to market their directory and don't follow through with a good plan, and don't make much, but even those people at least make their money back that they paid for the software. I don't actually know people's exact numbers, but I guess that it should be relatively easy to make a few hundred dollars the first year after accounting for expenses.

Thanks again David,

I am currently checking out the free version. I want to see how much traffic I can generate before going for the version 3.3. Also, I am learning about templates and translations to other langauges...

Cheers,
