I have searched for a way of changing this but only come up with the Cat mod

Does anyone know how to change

sitename.com/category/2/
instead of sitename.com/category/?p=2

There is some items I have seen but they say it does not work

there is a way, but i'm not sure if it's compatible with what the mod rewrite is currently doing.
