I am running into a small problem. I have been getting over 500 new submissions a day to my directories for several days now, (now sure how or why not part of the problem) Now the approve links is pretty slow and every so often some of the columns disappear. has nay one else figured out how to make it fast or stop the columns for disappearing?... now that I read back thats 2 problems lol. I am using phpLD2

try upgrading to 3 :-D
other than that, maybe your MySQL needs some cleaning
and try g-zip compressing submit.php (that should speed that up a bit)
for the columns disappearing, try reloading the page
if you want it fixed than i would suggest going into admin/files/main.css and playing with the "width" or something

should not be a MYSQL problem I just put up heydudes.net 2 days ago has only 200 approved links and now 600 awaiting approval (I am going backwars fast on the awaiting lol) This site used to be a smarter script, and their support is useless and I paid for that script
you need to put in a trouble ticket with your hosting, cause omfg... your site is sloooooooow. i have a crap load of stuff going on my site and it's nowhere near as bad as yours.

I actually never got to load a random category i clicked on.
It took me that long.
I just re-checked again and it loaded fine.
I should have trace routed before, but i did this time and everything seemed fine, minus a slight pause on telefonica-wholesale.net, which is linked to 89.com which is a huge link farm of **censored****censored****censored****censored**sites.
I never really dug into the phpld2 code, so taking a stab at it from my stand point wouldn't be wise on my part.
Maybe Boby will chime in and shed some light, or another individual who may have had a similar problem.
