Why %20 in the search box

Can anyone explain why all spaces in a search term are replaced with %20 in the search box after I hit the search button on my installation? Surely it can't be right.

I've just installed the latest version phpld-2-86.2.0 and still the same problem, everything else works correctly though. It must be something to do with the way my hosts server is setup I assume.

By the way on install I got the "Server API : CGI Mode is likely to have problems" message but ignored it as instructed to do so in other threads. Do you think this may be the cause?

Checking through your backlinks I found a number of sites with the same problem, any ideas yet?

I dont have it on my 3.x install
