I am building a directory of world business, and am considering using the regional for this. I am interested in hearing from some of you that have used it.
What I have in mind is a main cat for each continent, then breaks down to countries inside, and eventually cities, when it gets enough links to warrent it.
Would I be better to use the regional, or just go with phpLD?

I had a big database of world cities but I can't seem to find it.
Can you find anything here:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&rls=GGLG%2CGGLG%3A2005-50%2CGGLG%3Aen&q=free+database+world+city+names&btnG=Search

I actually think I might just add them manually, as needed. I dont like having empty categories, or subcats. My OCD maybe.lol
I am just curious if I should go with the regional directory, or just use a standard install. I cant find a demo for regional, so I dont know what the options are.

Optimit.
With the regional script, you would first install the countries database, then add the categories you desire to the backend. You then have the option of viewing the listings in either mode (normal or regional). But the normal view does not reference the regions in any way. That is, in the normal view, you will not see what country, state, city the listing belongs to. I think that it sounds like you want the listings to refer to a particular region.
It looks like you will have a rather large database though if you try it using the phpLD script. You would have to duplicate categories off of each region. You would use the countries database as your main categories, then add the business categories to each of the countries list. A BIG database. Probably not a good idea.
I don't know the best answer to your dilemma, but you can see my regional script in action at: http://regionaldirectory.biz
Play with it to see if it fits the bill.

nice looking site. the word "normal" appears in the URL when browsing ur categories. I fail to see how ur site operates any different from a phpld site.
*edit*
i see the "regional" link to convert how the db is displayed.
i dont understand why one would choose this script over phpld. with phpld just made the top categories counties and tier it down the tree
