Reciprocal Link

I hope this is the right place for this...I am currently using 3.4.0 and was wondering if there was a way to modify the reciprocal link fields. On my site www.popsz.com when the use goes to submit a link there are 3 options, 2 paid, and the free reciprocal link option. When the user hits the free option the reciprocal link field is there but not required. The user hits submit and the page refreshes and the box now says invalid URL. For one its in yellow and for two I think it should have the asterik next to it as well. Since it doesnt, I get a lot of submission with no reciprocal and then the user cant resubmit there site in the category because its not unique.

Are there any ideas to make this more clearer or to modify the script or add a mod to help ease the submissions process with reciprocal links.

You can do a hide - show div of the asterisk for the reciprocal for when they choose the reciprocal option.
Can edit the colour in the css file also.
