Candyfloss was about one of the first directories I noticed using PHPLD. Now they seem to have been deindexed, they have no PR and Google doesn't know even about their main page. Wondering if that has to do something with their Gotlinks link exchange, or if they have accepted some "bad sites" into their directory. Nowadays one has to pay a lot of attention as for what gets approved .

are you talking about {parked domain - link removed} ?

Well, there are plenty of sites that have pagerank and are well indexed.

(not sure what happened to candyfloss.org)

sorry, i just noticed you are talking about .org
well i set up mine only two weeks ago and it already has a pagerank of two... that being with hardly any data in it.
what made me stumble is:
http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/demo/ has no pagerank :?:
and it seems to be quite hard to get a pagerank for subcategories.
anyways, i will certainly set a no follow to all sites that seem to be bad neighbourhood...
looking closer at candfloss.org: it just has to be the gotlink- this is just pure spam..

You know, I'm seeing changes in the toolbar today since even yesterday. I think we might want to wait a little longer, as this update may not be complete.
I see your point about the subcategories though. We could certainly offer another option for url rewrite. I notice that even on some high profile directories there is significant drop from page 1 to sub pages.

btw, I'm seeing a roll back of the pagerank right now. I wonder if that is part of why some of the subpages show lower pagerank, because the demo does indeed have pagerank on the updated google:
{old test url removed}
and I am seeing subpages with pagerank on the new index.
ex. main page a 5 and subpages are 3 or 4

David: you point to demo2, which doesn't exist on the site at the moment, but for which there is PR3 on some datacenters. For demo, there is PR0.
Well, I have no problems with the few directories that I setup. I am content with PR0 on them, as long as they are indexed, because mostly they were setup in July. For other sites that I got setup before July, I already got pagerank > 0, for July sites, there is only 0, which basically doesn't mean it is zero, it just means that the page is indexed. Next update that is cca 3 months ahead will show ;-). It seems this GTPR update is based on pre-July data.

I would only worry if that would stay for a longer time. Are they in the index? Do you have also some deep backlinks, ie pointing somewhat deeper, not only to the homepage? As long as they are in the index, all will be fine.

Good point. It used to be called demo2 and then we changed it, so we'll just have to wait. :)
Great quick checking tool here btw:

I think we may make our own tool like this as another webmaster tool.

FYI, it took almost 7 months for my backlinks to show up as such in Google, at which time my site shot from a PR0 to a PR4. Yes, there is sandboxing going on, no matter how many arguments there are about it. My inner pages are PR3, for the most part, which isn't unusual. Inner pages, unless they're heavily indexed and traf**censored****censored****censored****censored**ed on their own, are usually at least a PR point below the index page.

Don't worry about backlinks in Google, it only shows some random sample. I prefer checking backlinks via MSN.
By the way, I have just seen few more directories deindexed from Google. Beware of approving scam, deindexed or problematic sites in your directories, that's IMHO one of the possible culprits.
