I have this problem also. New install on a fresh domain. The captcha didn't reload every time so I turned that off - now I have riccopt's problem also

I have this problem also. The cause of my problem is the antispam visual confirmation code displays 6 digits but enter box only allows for 5 digits to be entered...therefore submission fails & page reloads.
Where do I fix this? Had to turn feature off to add any new listings...but I'll turn it back on for now if you want to try to submit something.
Apparently I haven't posted enough to give you live url. It's artlessonlinks.com
version 2.2.0 new install

Content visible to registered users only.
For that one, edit submit.tpl - look for the captcha field and look for Content visible to registered users only. change to Content visible to registered users only.

Update: I changed the maxlength for captcha. Now I can enter all digits but still it won't accept submission. I tried it a number of times to make sure I had no typos. Each time the page reloads without being submitted. There's a red asterisk by every line in form. Any ideas?
artlessonlinks.com
code looks like this:
<input type="text" name="CAPTCHA" value="" size="10" maxlength="10" class="textpy" /><br />

I know I am going to look stupid for this, but I have the same character number problem in the captcha but the only thing in my submit.tpl is this: capture name="title"
What am I missing?

it looks like there is no solution for this problem on the script...
lots of people are unable to submit to the sites... simply because the sites will not allow them... kind of painful to get a site to work with this script...
(and I generally solve issues on this kind of scripts quite fast, but since this script generates no error and gives no result it is kind of hard to get the balls rolling with it)

Yes. It works fine without the visual confirmation code enabled...but of course I'd like to use it. I disabled and enabled a few times but nothing changed, except now the visual confirmation code won't load at all. I did a search of forum regarding that problem and found a number of posts but no actual solution, so I guess I should start a new thread re this problem.

When I disable captcha the submit page works fine. The only place I find to change the maxlength is the live submit.php link on the site but the submit.php local file doesn't have the form to change the maxlength that I can see. Is my eyesight bad or is there somewhere I can look?

submit.tpl in the folder of the template you are using, not submit.php
Content visible to registered users only.

Yes I know. But like I said, the only thing there is capture name="title"
