Hey,
I lost over 10,000 indexed pages over the weekend.

Most of the pages would have been static html detail pages for listings.

Did anyone else suffer a lot?

This is really messed up.

Right now google is showing 9580 idexed pages, 2 minutes ago it showed 960!
Before that I did have over 11,000 pages indexed.

I set my browser to offline and hit the back button just to make sure and it did.

Anyone know whats happening?

EXACTLY the same has happened to me and it has been a week already. Boby re-assured me that there is no problem and its just a glitch. Let's wait and see.

Hopefully it will go back up anyway :)

Mine has gone down even more though, its around 150 indexed right now, its a HUGE drop.

I was reading a blog about google weeding out "spam" and it seems directories were hit very hard, hopefuly this isn't true and its just a temporary problem.

All i know is google is really weird like that. i've been reading around a bit. lots of people complaining about pages indexed. They also go on to say the same thing. one day they have xx,xxx and the next they have xxx.

I think I will start book marking for future reference, so i can give links on what i read.

Jim, is your indexed pages still staying low?

I hope this isn't a permanent thing..

Now up to 11K.

I had an ODP clone on the site and Google has just recently been wiping out many ODP clones and so I thought it was that.

I removed now all my links to the ODP section and will see how it goes.

But it seems like Google has been "attacking" other form of directories as well. AllDotNet does not have an ODP clone.

Frankly, I don't know.

This is very bad :(

I still havent gone up...

Anyone know why else google would be doing it?
I don't see any reason to lose so many indexed pages.

It has always gone up and down but normally just for a few days, still not going back to normal this time and its been over a week.

Thanks Jim.

I think AllDotNet may be up for sale soon though so I would like to get this resolved before then.

My listings are down to 102 now and this has been declining for the past few weeks ever since I started asking for help with the Google sitemap. I only hope that Google are not penalizing phpld users for submitting duplicate pages? I have been re-assured by David that this woudn't be the case but as far as I can see there is no other reason why Google would be picking on ONLY the phpld pages! My Blog pages are indexed very fast and made me feel paranoid.

I looked at EVERY link that has been indexed (all 100 of them  ) and there are SOME, not many but SOME links to my directory that have been indexed so I'm as lost on this one as George Bush is on finding World Peace  Come on guys lets get our heads together on this and find a solution.

Mine have been steadily growing. Only saw one decrease, but then right back up and really hasn't gone down for over 3 weeks now.

I'm seeing a number of larger sites lose pages too.
Whatever they are doing, it seems to be across the board.

Content visible to registered users only.

This I have noticed as well with link2geeks.net, I don't think it will be a bad thing for the near future in results to searches, but, they may suprise us.

Like what David just said, it is apparently across the net on every site, that we know of :/

my 11k indexed page became 6, and my 23k+ popularity link became 700+ :(

Quote from Matt Cutts:
Content visible to registered users only.

Make sure you are adding quality links to your directory (don't just wait for submissions). Go out and find some good links to add to your categories.

Also, work on getting some good links coming into your site.

And definitely think twice about using the Reciprocal Link Required option heavily.

Better read the whole post:
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/indexing-timeline/

Selling a bunch of links in the footer site wide may also be an issue that can lead to a reduction in the number of pages indexed.

I spoke with the VP of ISEDN.com and we had a nice good hour chat about some google happenings and what the indexing will lead to. Apparently, as we all have heard, or most haven't, Google.com is knocking the little guys off the boat and pushing the big guys up.

In other words, those business out there who are leading the engines in visits and have pulled google the numbers are going to take lead on the engines and the little guys will not follow after.

Berry, the VP of ISEDN, "Great guy by the way" has provided me with some info on PR and what his point of view is on what PR is used for and why it's not something to even worry about.

"Googles PR tool is just a show of what the site is close to on it's average a day views, it's also just a view point to give numbers, but won't matter in the long run because that number can go from 7 to 0 in one minute"

Googles Domains Not Catching Fire was sent to me by WebProNews.com and you can read the site if you want to get some information on the Google Finance and how it's not hitting off like they expected, or as planned. Lots of great info, to read on.

http://www1.webpronews.com/2006a/0519.html

I have been watching my old site Link2Geeks.net and followed it's tracks on results for the past 12 hours and it's results hit over 2% on google.com. Earlier today on google.com, Link2Geeks was resulted at 110, a few hours later 114, 4-5 hours later, 131. The numbers are ranking back up as they're cleaning up their directory for a fresh start. "So They Say"

Let me know what you guys think.
