So you might want to check your DB the next time you get SPAM and block the IP.

Thanks for sharing. Where do you block IPs in the database?

You need to block it in your control panel on your site. You should have the option to block IP's. I have cPanel and it's called "IP Deny Manager"

I haven't had any SPAM in the past week :) so it's working. For that IP anyway, untill the next one comes along.

Thanks heaps for that. Here's another IP to block:

66.232.97.145

They have been averaging 50 spam submissions a day for the past week or more.

Content visible to registered users only.

Content visible to registered users only.

a year later lol...banning ips really doesn't help much still get the same crap on wesece (another reason i'm updating the sire)...but banning common words does...also with a modification banning urls from titles and descriptions has 99% stopped spam on THL

For those of you not running Cpanel - you can simply edit your .htaccess file and add the denied IP - simply write (you can use notepad):

## USER IP BANNING
<Limit GET POST>
order allow,deny
deny from 72.55.165.86
allow from all
</Limit>

Place this comment anywhere in the file but care not to interrupt a line attached to another. Then save and upload back to your site -

72.55.165.86 (Blocks a specific IP address)
72.55.165. (Blocks ALL IPs within the range 72.55.165.xxx)
72.55. (Blocks ALL IPs within the range 72.55.xxx.xxx)
72.55.165 (Blocks ALL IPs within the range 72.55.1xx.xxx)
72. (Blocks ALL IPs within the range 72.xxx.xxx.xxx) Careful with this one)
Always check the IP address prior to banning - often you may ban a whole country or servicve by accident. As well, you can contact the person in charge of abuse as they will be listed.

To check an IP I use domaintools. Try this in your address bar:

whois.sc/72.55.165.86

it brings up all their info. Hope this helps!

Hi

Whats the best way to find the IP of the spam?

I rely on the emal bouncing back but there must be a better way?

Thanks
