Mod Title: [MOD] Historical Events

Last Updated: 28 July 2009

Supported by Mod Developer: Yes

Where to Download: PM me for info

Support Via This Thread or Download Site: This Thread

Price: $8.00 - Instructions and required files / $15 installed and integrated.

Compatible With: 3.2 / 3.3 / 3.4 / 4.0 / 4.1

DESCRIPTION:
Allows you to set up a 'This Day In History' display anywhere on your site by entering historical events into admin, including, Event Title, Location, Description, Date etc.

Events are pulled randomly by matching the day and month of the current time with that of any events in history you may have added. Can easily be configured to show as few or as many events for a given day as you like (if they are available).

Events can be activated or deactivated as you see fit.

This is a great way to rotate unique content on your site that will keep the major search engines coming back to index your site.

This is also great for niche directories to offer some informative content on your chosen subject.

UPDATE: For versions 4.0 and 4.1, placement can either be hardcoded anywhere into your templates or by use of two additional widgets included with the mod.

DEMOS:
airindexer.com (http://www.airindexer.com) (Top of right panel)
http://www.gateuk.com (Top of right panel).
Please note that there may be no events showing when you visit the demos as no Historical events exist, so please view screenshots in the next post.

NOTES:
Paid install will include formatting to fit your directory look and feel and can also be customised with additional fields if required.

IMPORTANT: Your self-install purchase allows unlimited installations on as many domains as YOU own. You are NOT allowed to install on third-party or your customer sites. This is against the terms of use and unless prior agreement has been sought. any such use will be deemed as a violation of usage terms and pursuant to the fact, action will always be taken to have those sites taken down. All emailed versions of this mod have very slight coding changes that make it very easy to trace the source, so it is in your own interests not to pass this mod to anyone else, as we have had some success in getting offending websites taken down, often resulting in the loss of the associated hosting account. If you do wish to use this mod for client websites, please contact me to arrange a multi-user discount.

A few comments on this mod:

First, I wanted to mention what a great mod this is. I found it easy to set up, and the output is very flexible so I was able to make it look the way I wanted. You can see it in use here on a niche directory as "Today in Art History" - http://artbrief.com

One additional feature that would be useful would be the ability to optionally have a URL for the title field.

Regards, Joe

Thanks for the feedback. Really looks good on your site.

The URL for the title can be added easiliy enough....about 10 / 15 mins work. If you want it validated, a little longer. I didn't add it as it's purely a 'content' mod and wanted to keep the output simple for people, but might add it as an option in future releases.

Bruce.

Content visible to registered users only.

That's good news, thanks. I'll need to get an updated version from you.

Also, for whatever reason the code box from post # 7 says "Content visible to registered users only." but I'm clearly logged in....

Yeah, I'm seeing that too and I posted it!

@James... looks like an ongoing problem there. When veiwing the thread normally, I see the 'Content visible to Registered users Only message', but when I hit reply, I can see the content.... doesn't make a lot of sense.

@findmyhobby.... PM me an email address and I'll send over the latest version.

Bruce.
