was this a top level category that had associated underlying sub cats connected to it?

also, did you manually add these categories to the database via myphpadmin, or did you do it via admin cpanel?

I am having the same error. I installed phpLD, then add a category (top level) then try to edit it. It shows error

Content visible to registered users only.

Getting the same error on two different servers.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this ?
