I guess I'm really showing my ignorance, but I'm totally new to this and I hope I can be helped.

I'd like to set up a specialized directory for an area I'd rather not state but, for illustration purposes, let's say it is Cheeze.

I'd like to have a directory where a person who is interested in cheeze could come along and say I'm in New York, who sells cheeze here? Then, presented with a listing of various possibilities they might say they want a certain Kind of cheese, which would present them with a smaller list. Next they might decide that they only want cheeses in 10 lb blocks and are presented with an even smaller listing.

In this same directory a different person may come along and first start looking for a certain kind, followed by the size and finally end up narrowing their choice by location.

The point I'm attemping to illustrate is that I'd like the application to allow people to come into it and start of their browsing from any one of several different criteria to finally end up with what they want. (And not necessarily just three as I've illustrated.)

From the listing submission view point, I'd like to have it capable of accepting a listing of entries which may fit into more than one category at a time without having to make multiple submissions.

Finally, I'd like to have a system that would allow previous submissions to be edited by the person who made the submission at some time in the future if they need to make changes.

Is this possible to do with PHPLD? Are there an any special limitiations or restrictions that might hinder this kind of thing.

Is it possible to try out this in a demo application to see how it would work both from the user and the lister side of things?

Thanks for your patience in considering this.

Okay, here goes...

Nearly ANY successful site is going to undergo a process of customization of the design and the programming on its path to success, and for this reason we do try to make our software easy to customize, and there are literally 100s of options built into the software (1000s if you think in terms of combinations).

That said, is sounds to me like a good starting point for you would be to get phpLD setup, so you can see what you can do without customization first. I think "kind" and "size" will most likely work with our category structure. We also do have addresses and google maps. To find out what is "nearby" will require some custom work, and overall I think you will need some custom work.

We have come to expect custom work. You can make a "directory" so MANY different things, and each strategy is a little different. We do about 50 hours of custom work per week and growing, and we keep the cost low ($30/hour). We may very well be able to meet your goals in just a few hours of work. This can often be the case.

If you want to move forward into the quote process, please post your request here:
