How to upgrade from 2.0 to 3.x

How difficult is it to upgrade from 2.0 to 3.x.

I just completely designed a template for 2.0 and was wondering if anything would be messed up when upgrading to 3.x?

I would say it is Medium

Will the upgrade effect the .tpl files?

Yes, some tpl files have been changed, such as for displaying the catgory results in searches. Definitly the admin tpl files are a lot different. I would expect it will work without changing the tpl files, but I think you can plan on doing a little finnagling.

So it is possible to just upgrade admin panel features?

I would say that upgrading only the admin panel features would not be an easy task. It would be much easier to just upgrade it all.

I have upgrading down to a little bit of a science, and start to finish, and upgrade normally takes me about 2-3 hours. from versions 2.0 to 3.04

How different are the databases?

I dont mind swapping out the entire php/tpl structure - I'm purposefully not adding many mods - but I'd rather not mess with the db if I can help it.

Can 3.0 use the exact same db as 2.0?

Simply running through the install script and clicking next>next>next updates the database.
