Unless this was changed in rc4 (i havnt checked) when writting descriptions for categories there is a 250 character limit which is annoying is it possible to make this limit longer?

I too am wondering what needs to be dont to take that limit off entirely or at least increse it. The post above is dated a month ago and no one has yet replied, but if anyone could help out, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

bump for a fix :)
I've tried altering the db description row to "LONGTEXT" and "BLOB" (and probably some others that I can't recall offhand... tried everything I can think of) and it still trims the description to 255 chars...

In addition to changing the db field, you also need to change the form field in the template file. That should be all you need to do.

I didn't see a length value in /admin/dir_links_edit.tpl
LINE 40:
Content visible to registered users only.
Am I missing something?
I don't use the public submit form... adding directly from admin...
Thanks :)

Hmmm...then I don't know the answer. Hopefully, someone else will know.

Hi gobgook, I dropped the DESCRIPTION field in pld_link and recreated it as a text field and it works fine. I can now enter descriptions of arbitrary length.
Could you pm me your cpanel access? I can have a look at your sql table if you want me to.

Hi Yktan,
Which file is the change made in. I am also a bit stuffed trying to extend the length of the description.
The title is also limited if that can be increased as well.
Thanks

Hi Yktan,
I changed the field type to long text, 455 cahracters, and it doesn't wish to save. If I have to make a change in the form, where is that done..?
Thanks

Hi Daemon,
There is no need to change any forms. I've just changed the database field and it works fine for me.
What do you mean by it doesn't wish to save?

York Kie

If I drop the pld_description and re-create it, I will lose all the data in the field or not? I am rather new to this end of the database, and am not keen to lose all I have collected so far.
