Translations: what am I doing wrong?

I promise I read every single thread I could find and apparently it should be so easy, but it isn't, not for me at least.

I got a translation, renamed it to en.php and uploaded it.

But it still shows the english version!

I am definetely overlooking something, but what?

maybe there is something wrong in the translation file...

for me it didn`t worked because of a syntax-misspelling.. in one file

it sounds dumb, but i forgot to insert

It didn't quite work for me, but are you sure about the ');' ?
