Sorry man but those 2 are bloody awful designs - in fact there is no design to them! I can't imagine anyone would use those. Sorry to be so blunt but if you are going to show off some templates then at least put some effort into them.

Whats "bloody awful designs" for one person is beautiful to another person
What does your sites look like I don't see your sites on your signature, Just was wondering what you thought was not "bloody awful designs".
I don't think that was being honest I think that was really rude saying it was "bloody awful designs" in a public forum.

I would leave them if anything, it's a base for someone else to tweak them.

True, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I can't imagine anyone thinking they are beautiful. I don't like being rude but when something is so bad it needs to be said - cruel to be kind. If you are going to tweak those you may as well start from the professional design as it has a better grounding.

I don't design templates but am a graphic designer. I don't put my directories in my sig because I don't wanna get spammed to death.

I'm Not a designer or a programmer but I do Port Styles (install Stargate Portal Code into styles) / Themes /templates for stargate Portal for phpBB and I have ported some ugly styles out there but one mans love is another mans hate.

It's true people have different tastes in design. Take my design at u-Hits.com... I've had comments ranging from the 'It's the best template I've seen, to 'it makes me want to chuck', so truely, it is down to individual preferences.

That said, constructive criticism is far better than just stating "they're bloody awful", which even if the orginal designers says is is ok, is in my opinion, a bit underhanded and not really something to be placed in an open forum.

With reference to the templates themselves, they're not to my taste, but I can tell you, there are many that are a LOT worse that are in common use across many sites.

I love that green template style was it a custom one or one that was picked up?
Were can I get it would love to change it to a Nice Blue (I Love blue and White)

It's custom built by me and absolutely would NOT work on any other phpLD install, as the one it's on is a very substantially modded version of phpLD 3.2.

Good effort wendllb your designs may have had a tough time with comments but at least you have had a go at something different and no dought learned something along the way. Your designs will only get better, Keep at it.

There not all that bad Wendall, like what was said (is in the eyes of the beholder) and gives they user something to work with if they like the design.

Like my site in my sig AnLD (template by Bruce), I have had mixed reviews on it.
I just love it, maybe kinda dark but that was what i was going for.

I have had people tell me it sucks and others ask if they can pay and use it <<--(no it is not for sale or use) as Bruce said on his u-hits template it is to modified to run on a regular script.

But keep up the work Wendall, you can only get better as i have been working on a few template designs based on the professional template and not as easy as a lot of people would think to make it look right.

Since when is the quality of a directory based on what it looks like? Anyone looked at dmoz.org lately? Looks like it did a decade ago.

No one ever said quality is based on looks but as someone that submits to directories it just kinda gets old seeing thousands of different directories that all look the same. your not sure if you have been there or not.
And yes dmoz still looks like **** like it did years ago and from what i see not really quality anymore, just good link juice from years of backlinks.

I like some of these designs but I stick to minimalist designs. less distracting.

Question for you brilliant designers....since I started using ver 4.1 on my newest directory, I can't seem to add code to put a "partner links" box in the right side bar, like I have on several other dir's.

Can anyone provide a the correct code for 4.1? I don't get why the 4.0 code won't work in 4.1?? help!?!?!
