Do the site admins plan on putting up a wiki?

Can you post an example link of what you are talking about?

The WordPress Community has a nice Codex set up on a wiki script here:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page

CSS-Discuss Group has their wiki here:
http://css-discuss.incutio.com/

This place sure could use a wiki. Any topic that comes up on this support board often enough then could become a wiki article. Eventually it becomes a community documentation on how to set up, customize, and use the script. VERY effective, and very cool. A wiki can be set up a couple ways, either open to any member, the way the above two are (though they are moderated by a core group for mistakes and problems) or set up that moderation takes place before posting is completed.

I would volunteer to write up docs about customization of this script, providing I ever get it done . . .

I would also donate my time to writing docs for the site. I think it would be very effect.

You can find web sites all over the place. I've found that most open source software is starting to put them up because the amount of information that can be placed in them. Install information, tutorials, and just about everything related to the project.

Here's a good one.

You can find info on formating and stuff on the mediawiki site.

I agree that we need this. The next step is choosing the right softare.
Any recommendations on what we should use?

I do know that phpbb has a knowledge base add on.

But I'm not sure if I like it. What else might be good?

This is the script that the WordPress Community uses, and it's a pretty easy interface. I've added and edited articles in that one and had no problems. The MediaWiki site also has extensive (wiki!) documentation. If you click the "What links here" link halfway down on the left column it'll show you a LOT of wikis that use this software.

I wouldn't recommend the one CSS-D is using, since it's a PITA to use, though a GREAT resource.

Looks good...I'll try to at least get it installed in the next few days.

Ok, we have it installed, and even matching the look and feel. Once we have a couple of pages up, we'll post a live link.

That was a great idea. Thanks for the suggeston. :)

I had actually been thinking about this for awhile, but haven't had the time till yesterday to do something about it. Than I wasn't the one who brought it up!! Haha

It was a good suggestion, thank you for getting the ball rolling.

I've been wondering why there hasn't been one. There's a lot of questions I need to ask, but I haven't had the time yet. Once I get some time I'll ask them. I also want to add some stuff to the wiki.

I've never really used a wiki before so it is a little new to me.

I haven't really used one either but I've read a lot about them I've wanted to put one on my web site, but had no real use for it =\

Heh, {broken link removed} Hope you don't mind but it's a basic page

And I've just edited your page, David, for spelling and a couple of minor "clarification" additions.

That's the absolute STERLING quality of wiki: no one knows everything, but everyone knows something....

It's kind of strange working on a wiki in a small community. I'm sure someone will soon edit the page I made.

Content visible to registered users only.

Cool, I will take a look. Thanks!

OH COOL! We've got a WIKI!

I volunteer to work on the "Customizing the Template" section that isn't there yet. I will be very busy over the next couple weeks though, so it may have to wait until after Labor Day.

I might also make a suggestion- There's a LOT of stuff in the forum that should be transferred over to the Wiki, stuff that's just very basic instructional stuff, and questions that have probably been asked and answered more than once. Anyone who doesn't have a lot of coding knowledge could help the wiki effort by pitching in here.

Thank you, David, for hearing our plea and setting this up! Ultimately it will save you all a BUNCH of work.

One more suggestion- the tab at the top of the page that says "Wiki" might be more effective if it said "Docs" or "Help"-- us geekytypes know what a wiki is, and its usual function in a community like this, but not everyone else will.

Content visible to registered users only.

Agreed. We'll do that soon.

I've made some additions to the wiki over the last couple weeks- added a troubleshooting section, and a couple articles to it.

Hopefully we get more people helping with this soon. There's a LOT of basic stuff buried in the forum that could be added to the wiki to make it easier to find.

I put a link at toplevel of the wiki to the directions on how to post to the wiki. You'll have to "register" the first time you want to add or edit stuff.

Also, as the wiki fills in, it will be helpful if people look for answers there BEFORE posting in the forum. This will help to "unclutter" the forum since the routine stuff that comes up over and over again will, hopefully, be on the wiki.

Where is the wiki?

(reply from David - we removed the wiki from the site)
