- changed old RSS Parsing module with the new (free magpie project)
- added Reciprocal Links feature for submitting Links (not RSS Feeds).
- new RSS Parsing module has caching. This means the script will download RSS Feed only if the feed has been updated.
- now there is no selection drop down for Type (0.91, 1.0 etc.). The parser automatically checks this.
- now NewsTopica supports feeds with different encoding styles (ISO-8859-1, UTF-8 etc. - english, french etc.).
- new feature in rss_import_feeds.php script. Admin can import all RSS Feeds from given directory, all RSS Feeds and single RSS Feeds - if no variables are passed then the script imports all RSS Feeds. If the variable is "?f=45", then script imports only RSS Feed with "45" ID. If the variable is "?c=12", then the script imports all RSS Feeds from the category with the ID of "12" (this means that all RSS Feeds assigned to this category will be imported).

For people who already have Newstopica 3.0 installed, and want to upgrade, they need to update the existing DB by running the installation script afer uploading the files from the new download package.

Just go to www.newstopica.com (http://www.newstopica.com) and login with your username and password to get the new release.

If you are not a license holder, get your copy today by registering at http://www.newstopica.com/articlescript/safe_index.php
The cost is $35 with a link back, and $85 for the unbranded version.

I tried to install 3.02 and got this error during install:
Warning: Smarty error: validate: validator id 'v_step' is not registered. in /home/virt1/hobbyline/web/news/libs/smarty/Smarty.class.php on line 1095

I cannot go any further. Clicking 'next' just takes me back to the same page wiht the same error. Any suggestions?

Try clearing your temp/templates folder
Also, try changing browsers.

This may sound simple, but can you also try doing a Refresh in your browser?

I have tried everything, and no luck. Go to: http://hobbyline.com/news/install/index.php to see what is happening.

and what about write permissions?
Can you double check that?
(I'm also trying to get the main dev person to look at this)

My news site is DOWN, and has been since the 3.02 update. Any news on what I can do to properly install the program? http://hobbyline.com/news/

Mike, when I look at your install page, the page title is phpLinkDirectory 2.0 Install. This tells me you have not uploaded all of the files.

On line 5 of templates/install/main.tpl there is:
Content visible to registered users only.

This indicates to me that all files from the new download package have not been uploaded. Please carefully check and make sure everything is uploaded properly.

Thanks,
David

Ahhh! You did it, David. I missed updating that category completely. It is working now. Thanks for your assistance.

One thing, though. I know it has been said before, but upgrading is a bear sometimes, with all of the directories and sub-directories. I wish there was an easier way, but all is well now.

Good, I'm glad we got it now.
I actually posted this earlier, but somehow didn't submit it (maybe an interuption).

Maybe one day we will be able to make upgrading easier, or at least have a better step by step.
