left bar - how to

I just want to have a left column like this site , exactly like this site

Content visible to registered users only. . any tips on hwo to do it ? what template i edit and move around what code ?
I want to have the Submit , Latest etc links on the left and also if possible have the search on the left .

Well, the template that you edit is main.tpl. The links that you are wanting to add into the left column are located in the top_bar.tpl
