Can someone please recommend precisely which files and where within them must I edit template files to embed content at the left & right edges of my PHP Link Directory Site? I'm particularly interested in adding a custom menu navigation on the left hand side of the site and Google Ad Sense table on the right edge of the site.

I have a few banners I'd like to display in my header & footer respectively. I've successfully edited both the header and footer template files to do so. However, I'm searching for suggestions to support dyamic selection of banner code based on which category is presented.
For instance, suppose I have two categories named "Montreal" and "Toronto". And I have two banners called "Montreal Expos" and "Toronto Blue Jays". When an end-user browses the "Montreal" category page, I'd like to present the "Montreal Expos" banner in the header or footer. Consequently, when an end-user browses the "Toronto" category page, I'd like to present the "Toronto Blue Jays" banner in the header or footer.
