Hi!
I'm brand new to the forum and the world of directories. My website has been around awhile and I've always maintained a list of bookmarks about my subject, which is Alaska travel.
What I'm hoping to do is use PHP LD to categorize and display those bookmarks.
Is there a way to import a list of bookmarks ( a huge <dl> ) into php ld? Is it easier that sitting down and doing each by hand?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. The site and bookmarks are located here: http://www.alaskagold.com/blog/alaskabookmarks.html
many thanks,
nsl
Hello and welcome!
I don't think there is any module to import from bookmarks :(
Sorry!
I think the fasted method in this case is to manually add the links.

Thanks for the reply. Manual submission would be EASY to do, but very painstaking - that is long and boring...
What about filling the MySQL database directly with some sort of script?
What would it cost to hire a person to help manual submission? The saying goes - "Many hand make light work"

thanks for the plug arinda :)
the problem is i would charge a heck of a lot of money to import 500+ bookmarks.
i usually charge 25/30 and hour for work
but i can be nice to some people ;)

Hey Bobby,
I think it could be scripted with a GREP search to take the text file and make it a csv 'database' - from there it could go anywhere, right? I think that's what anon means by parse.
I need to find a 'parse king', because I am only a parse squire!

i am a parse nada
i still don't understand how you are going to get descriptions?
bookmarks dot have descriptions that i know of
@ Newman
Would you be interested in a small mod that will automatically add the links (URL+title+description) for a small donation? Let's say $10.
The only problem is you can add them first to only one category, the rest must be done by hand.
Boby
Take Boby up on his offer.

@Boby
Thanks so much for the offer. Let's do it. I'll PM you.
The script is ready and I've sent it to Newman.
Hope he likes it and it workes as well as it works for me.
It turned out to be nice, I like it and I think I will expand it some day to import bookmarks from Firefox/Mozilla and Opera into the phpLD DB. But ... only some day :)
I just want to show you all a screenshot ... or maybe two ;) I'm a bit happy
This is the starting page:
Content visible to registered users only.
And here it's importing the links, green bg means successfull, red means an error (luckily it has no errors to show  )
Content visible to registered users only.
