If I buy version 3.0 for $75, how much will it cost to buy version 4.0 when it is eventually released. Do you have to pay the full purchase price again with each new release, or is there an upgrade fee?
Thank you.

Once you purchase 3.0, all 3.xxx revision upgrades remain free.

Once 4.0 comes out, that starts a new product series, and yes, a fee will need be charged.

looks like a good script, but if that is the case, then I will give it a miss.
Not too keen on paying the full purchase price every six months, it adds up to too much across several sites. Also I am used to paying around $30 a year with vbulletin for access to upgrades.

It's your choice. You are definately missing out on a great script.

Also, once you pay the $25, it is yours. It's not a lease like vbulletin. ;)

Do you pay for vBulletin $25 for all versions? No.
phpLD is cheap even for me from a poor country, and it't worth to pay $25. The major versions (2, 3+, 4+, ...) are not released after 6 months, it can take more than a year.
For example, when we release ver 4, ver 3 will be free. Then when ver 5 is out, ver 4 will be free...

I have no objection to paying $25 for future versions, if that roughly equates to once every six months, but not $75 every six months or so. I am referring to the $75 no link back script in my original question.
For example
If the pricing was listed as
$25 for version 3.0
$50 once off fee for removal of link back
$25 for future versions, roughly every six months
I think that would be reasonable. But the pricing is not clear to me.

I am reading it as $75 for version 3.0 no link back
$75 for future versions, roughly every six months.

We released version 3.0 on February 1 (the first time we start charging for phpLD).
We have no plans to require a future upgrade. I'm not saying we won't do it, but nothing is planned right now, so you should be safe for a long time to come (maybe forever!)

The main reason I would make a decision to require a new purchase for something like phpLD 4.0 would be if it was absolutely needed to have a budget to keep making the site better for you (and everybody else). Right now, we are doing great, and should be fine for the forseeable future.

Can you confirm the pricing please.
If you opt for the $75 no link version, are future upgrades US$25 or US$75
Thank you for your time, I fully understand that software developers must be paid for their time, and it must be worth their while to continue development, I would just like to clarify the pricing.

Yes, this is an important point for anyone who has opted for the non-branded version! I just bought it today, but I don't think I would have, if I had read this first. I wasn't sure whether to go for the $25 version, or pay the extra $50 for the non-branded version, and eventually I opted for the non-branded version, but only because I assumed that was for life!

Those that have already paid the extra $50 for the non-branded version should definately get the non-branded upgrades at the regular price, $25.

I have already bought domains for 3 more directory sites, and was planning to purchase 3 more non-branded licenses after I finish setting this site up, but I will definately reconsider if that is not the case... :(

Once, again we have NO PLANS to have any additional charges anytime soon. Mainly, I just don't want to close the door on this option should it ever become necessary. At the current rate, I can't imagine charging for a new version in the next year. Most likely the first people that would be affected (if this ever even happens) would be new buyers.

the way i think as of yet vB or UBB or IPB or Kayako etc works : you have a pricing for the script itself , which should change or be modified based on the amount of work going behind every upgrade / new release . The owner should decide based on the number of customers against the work put in and the features provided .
The other cost , totally seperate would be the Unbranding , which is normally a one of price for lifetime .

on a sidenote , i personally would not like to unbrand my directory as i am happy showing of i have a awesome script in use ... coz the people whom you would be trying to hide it from already would be knowing what script you are using , just based on the urls and script structure ... and the rest just would not care .

yes with vbulletin, the no link/branding option is a once off non recurring fee.
With this script, I am still not sure what the pricing is, after reading the posts so far.

Does that mean if version 4 is released, users who paid $75 for a link free version will have to pay $25 for the upgrade, or a full $75?

Yes, this still hasn't been clearly answered. Is the $50 no-branding fee for life, or do we have to pay the no-branding fee, on top of the $25 script price, for each subsequent version?
