Are there places where phplinkdirectory has hardcoded slash/backslash incompatibilities which cause problems under Windows.
There appears to be an irregular problem in RC5.2 causing the error message:
Content visible to registered users only.
(two times a resh install made it go away... later it came back and I can't get past it yet)
and the current stable LD_rev63 has errors like (note the slash error):
Content visible to registered users only.

Just a quick question here: is that just a typo "xamp" in your error lines? Or were you trying to install it to that specific path?
I've found that when xampp installs on windows, it's VERY picky about path. If it can't find "xampp/xampp" it doesn't CARE where YOU'VE pathed it, it's going to bork somehow.... so if you've got an odd version of the name such as "xamp", try uninstalling and let it reinstall in whatever path it offers you.
I've run xampp on windows XP for 3 years. Once I let it install in its chosen "default path", I've never had one problem with it.
My default path is c:/apachefriends/xampp/xampp.... so far I'm not having that problem with RC5.2 which I've been running locally since release....

No typo; I have xamp in c:\xamp where it created .\xampp\etc
The two errors show different paths because I have PHPLD RC in \directory and "stable" in \dirs.
I have not been able to figure out where this smarty error is coming from. PHPLD worked once and never again. I am guessing I have more cleansing to do.
I always hated Smarty (the more you want to improve your smarty-based project, the worse it gets IMHO). That might be contributing to my blindness.

John, you might find some help here re smarty issues, though I'm not sure this issue with xampp qualifies (I'm cursing at a xampp install myself right now!)

vkaryl found them most helpful with a smarty templating question we were working on.
