Email set up

If anyone could help me with the email set up I would appreciate it. I just had my very first submissions to my directory! So any guidance as to how to set this up would be appreciated in regards to the templates. The email system is working I have sent myself a test email. I jsut need to know how to do this as per if someone puts in a link and I approve this link, does the system send out an approval email automatically, or do I need to send it out? etc...

thanks tons, I'm going to check them out. I did search, but suppose I didn't use the correct terms.
