categories pages don't show up

Hi,
I just installed the package and started adding few categories. everything looks fine but when I view the directory only the index is up and running, category pages are not there. help please

Are the categories "active"?
do they have text titles?

Yes they are active, and they have the url title.
the link shows for example /directory/category_name/ but that page is not there

I added the categories through mysql though. I haven't tried adding them in the admin area.

Does the .htaccess exist in the directory folder?

ni I could not transfer it because my host (yahoo) won't accept it. I still can read php files though. Is that a problem

Yes, the problem is you are trying to use mod rewrite without htaccess. If you turn it off, it will work fine.
Ex. http://www.usluxurylimo.com/directory/?c=1

Login to admin, Go to System > Directory and Find "Enable URL rewrite", switch it to No.

Hey guys,
I have the same problem as the guy above, but .htaccess does exist in the directory folder. I do not want to turn the MOD url off, as it would be of great benifit SEO wise. my link exchange can be seen here - http://www.hyperstudy.com/edClients/other/linkexchange/. Thanks
