View Full Version : recommend hosting company that will support?
Hi- I signed up with Godaddy.com and afetr 2 frustrating weeks of problem with submitting link and links nor being checked it turns oout it is because Godaddy does not allow remote connection on their servers. I have ben trying to find a new hosting compnay that does- not as easy as I thought as most companied you really have to dig to find out if supported. i prefer an american hosting company. I just need a cheap, basic plan that wll aloow at least one mySQL data base. Thanks!

I use 6bucksite.com
I have this script installed and it runs fine!
I am actually the owner of this site so I know it works!

I use cheap plans on qualityhostonline.com and webhostingbuzz.com and all is OK.
Almost any webhost these days supports PHP and MySQL. I think you could run phpLD with almost any webhost anywhere.

If it's not too much of a shameless plug, {url no longer in service - link removed} can offer cheap hosting.
I know the quality as its my company.
Mods - Please remove this, if I am not allowed to advertise!! :)

I like and use Meccahosting.com. They also have very good assistance if you have issues setting stuff up.

below10host.com - I've been with them for years, have a bunch of domains there.
If you don't go with below10 and go with another, this is IMPORTANT. Before you sign up, ask if they run php as cgi. If they do, RUN THE OTHER WAY. More problems with more php scripts are caused by that setup than you can possibly imagine. Not just this script, but wordpress and others . . .
Also ask if they've got mod rewrite set up if it's an apache server, so you can have pretty and SEO friendly urls.

Content visible to registered users only.
I'm setting one up on site5.com and the pagerank feature isn't working. I believe this is blocked on googles end. Might just be the server I happen to be on.

Agreed about Site5. I have the same problem. I should probably remove my recommendation, though I must say I like Site5. It would be nice if one of these days we can figure out a way to write a script that will check pagerank from your local computer, and then allow you to update your database.

Ahhhhh....
Well, there's always {url no longer in service - link removed}
You'd have to do a lot of manual updating, but since pagerank doesn't seem to change with the rapidity of breeding rabbits, it might be a "do it now since we have these host problems" and hope something breaks later - either a change from the current host's POV or a new host....
(Um. If you're going to use this "solution" PLEASE don't drown the site with thousands of requests all at once! Do a few at a time, or you'll screw it for all of us....)
BTW, I have several domains running on Below10. About half and half: some on servers that run php as cgi, and some where php is run as a standard apache module. I don't have any problem with any of my php applications in either direction.
