I went on one of my mass submission excursions today where i go through and submit my site to arounf 75 directories a day and came across a few directories that i cant remember the names of. these directories though (probably 5-10 and have found more through all my submissions ) that look abandoned. they have something like 250 active links and show anywhere from 1000-2500 pending links.
is this a common thing you think for people do just start one and abandon it? ive probably come across 25-35 in my submission hunts and just wonder how you could just abandon it and not even come back.

Have you contacted them? Maybe they're too busy to update their directories.
I have seen few of them, but it is strange to see directories with many pending links.

I think a lot of people quickly become disillusioned because they do not understand in advance that there is a lot of work involved in running a free directory. It's also easy to grow tired of looking at the onslaught of crappy, spammy sites that some people submit. There is also the issue of large numbers of people who completely disregard posted submission rules.
If you are serious about running a free directory, you make it through this and develop a plan for dealing with it. If you are not serious, you grow weary and only periodically process the submissions.

Yes, I have run across quite a few of these directories where the owner seemed to have moved on and abandoned their directory.
I have sold a few directories where the new owners never update the directory to have their emails, paypal emails, etc on the directory.
So I get all the emails, etc....
Takes a while to convince the owners that they have to change this information quick.
And one directory I sold, two days later it was up for sale on a site that sells websites!
