Hi guys
I want to upgrade to V2 RC2, but was just wondering - do I have to get rid of my existing installation, install version 2, and restore the database, or is there a process to upgrade version 1 to version 2 RC2?
Thanks a lot!

I think the answer is you just replace the old directory files with the new and then run the install using the old database? the exact answer is in that thread

Cool - I thought it was somewhere - the one thread I didn't check again!
I will give it a go, and let everyone know how I get on... everything is backed up anyway so there shouldn't be a problem rolling back if it all goes Pete Tong...

Guys, I get the same message someone else had....
"
Missing file: /home/kentbuslinks/public_html/libs/adodb/drivers/adodb-db_driver.inc.php
ADONewConnection: Unable to load database driver ''
Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /home/kentbuslinks/public_html/admin/init.php on line 54"
when trying to go to the admin panel....
The answer to the other person was incorrect DB config, but my settings are exactly the same as I was using before.... could there be another reason?

Wait, I think that is for going from RC1 to RC2
Not sure if this works for v1 to v2...probably not
That will be one of the items we will cover in the next few days....a script that imports the data from the old directory.

What I actually did was remove all the files that were on the server, then upload RC2, then run the install... which seemed to go OK, until after it finished, then I can't get into anything. The main index thinks about it then says the lmit for redirection is reached and suggests an unaccepted cookie might be the problem. The admin just gives the error I posted before.
I have put all the old stuff back there for the time being so the site isn't down for too long
It's not the end of the world - I was just looking forward to playing around with version 2 sooner rather than later!! I'll give it another go at the weekend when I have a little more time
Appreciate any help you can give though!
Cheers

I think you can safely start "playing" with v2 now, and then plan on getting your import script in a couple of days. I actually should be able to help sooner (without the script) if you email me an export of your db, but only if you are in a mad rush. :)

Totally my bad :( What I did was delete the directory, smash the old databases and reinstall new. (I hadn't spent too much time developing my links since I was anticipating 2.0 anyhow)
Sorry about my nondistinction between v1 and rc1

Kwirl :: That's OK... I realised you were talking about RC1 -> RC2
David :: Do I need to install RC2 with a clean database then, and fter that import the old entries into it?
It is not possible to upgrade from V1 to V2, but we're going to release soon a script that will import the categories, links and sent emails tables from a V1 database. Please don't overwrite a v1 install with a v2 one. It will only mess up things with no benefit out of it. The table names do not overlap so it's safe to install v2 in a v1 database, but no data will be imported, nor lost.
For upgrading between v2 versions you will simply have to overwrite the old version with the new one and run the installer again and everything will be updated.

OK, sounds good - I'll wait for the script before doing anything else :)

We may have a beta of that script in the morning.
Igonza is planning to post it here.
It will be a php file where you input the login info for both databases.
It will be a Beta, until we test it a few times, but hopefully it will be here for you to try tomorrow. :)

Excellent!! Looking forward to it... will save me having to go through and manually enter in the url for each category!!
I imported the categories table from v1 to v2, after modifying the .sql file so it references the new database, but I wasn't sure of a way to generate the url title from the category name, so I started doing it manually and then couldn't be bothered!
I do think this is why my url re-writes weren't working though - there was no reference url for the rewrite to call....
Cheers
