View Full Version : Tableless xhtml/css template for download
kickass

Available for download under the Creative Commons License-- the xhtml/css compliant tableless template (http://kickasswebdesign.com/wordpress/2005/09/a-phpld-tableless-template-for-download/) for phpLD. This template is made available for your download and use providing the link at the bottom remains intact. You may, if you wish, modify the link text to read simply "web template" if you do not wish to have my bodacious name on your page, but the link to my site must remain.
The zip folder contains a readme.txt file with installation instructions.
The template has been extensively tested on many computers running many different opsys/browser/screen resolution combos successfully. It's known to work in the following browsers: win2k & XP- Firefox, Mozilla, Opera and IE6. Mac- IE5+, Mozilla, Safari and Camino. Linux- Firefox and Konqueror.
Enjoy!

Awesome. That is wonderful. I'm sure some people are going to use it, and maybe this will start a trend I hope where other templates are submitted too. :)

Yep, stickying it would be a really good idea!
I've been using kickass's tableless templating all along, since I don't care to use tables for layout - actually haven't done so for several years. Her xhtml and css are super easy to use and understand; and I've learned a lot from her by using her templates and taking them apart to do my own thing with my sites.
You rock, lady!

Great News! I'll bet quite a few people are going to use it. I think many would say it is better that the default install.

hi kickass, how are you? I finally got my website running (if you remember me). anyway i just got it up today as i had to wait for the hosting co but I still have to work on the design and customizing it as its still looks similar to the default.
My issue and I hope you or someone could help is the following:
On my site, when I have quite a long page the content is sliding under the footer. I appreciate it if someone can help.

You need to do a few things here:
Wrap those two lower boxes in a wrapper and float the wrapper left, width 100%. You might need clear: both; on this, maybe not.
Absolutely ditch the absolute positioning on both those boxes. Absolute positioning takes stuff out of the flow and doesn't behave the way you want it. Not only that but IE HATES AP.
Remove clear: both; from both those boxes, that's not the floating behavior you want.
After the wrapper use a br class="clearA" - if that doesn't work you're going to have to resort to something like Easyclearing (http://www.positioniseverything.net/easyclearing.html).
I didn't try this in an actual template, but it has a good chance of working. However, google code often throws a spanner into good layouts since it's such messy code, so there are no guarantees.

oh and one more thing-- did you happen to look to see what that absolute positioning is doing to your MAIN page in Firefox and Opera? Those ads are covering all the links. That's what AP does, it overlaps stuff. Develop for firefox, fix for IE.

Just a quick question, is this tableless design for use with just 2.x templates? or can it be used with any phpLD version (even 3.1.0) as its more the backend database of the application and control panel that has changed more than anything...?

you would probably have to email kickass or contact her and ask her as I am unsure of that as I only used it on an earlier version

Hi Sabian,
You'll also find BJ on WPW where she's always in the design section, great source of xhtml/css knowledge. I've learned a lot from here advice and links.
