Hi,

I want to add/import rss feeds to my phpld site, too.

I found a file rss_parser.php in the includes directory which I imagine is for getting rss feeds but I don't know how to add a call from a template (like, what parameters, etc).

Any advice or reference to a previous post or topic would be appreciated.

On a related matter, to export rss feeds from my site (in addition to the xml button) I have added a tag in the header.tpl to make the feed spiderable:

Content visible to registered users only.

Hi David,

Thanks for your prompt response about syndicated third party rss news feeds http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=936 (impressive).

Actually, I was looking for something somewhat more mundane in the way of pulling in a feed from another website I have. A sort of cross feed, I suppose.

I went to the website of the author of the rss_parser.php file in the PHPLD includes directory but could find no references to the file at all. (Mind you, the file was created in Sept 2002 and last updated in Aug 2003, so maybe it's a bit stale by now.)

I have used MagpieRSS: RSS for PHP http://magpierss.sourceforge.net/ as a standalone solution for the moment but wonder if there could be a plugin or module for PHP Links Directory using Magpie as a basis (as there is at CMS Made Simple, for example).

This is a pretty simple way to pull in a feed here:

And here is an example of the the script in action:

Hi David,

I installed Newstopica (http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=936) and got it running "right out of the box."

After that I spent about ten minutes with rss_parser.php to mod it to read an affiliate xml data feed (which uses custom feed tags).

So now I can have a directory of hotel listings (which are all commission paying affiliate links).

I plan to look at other affiliate programs with xml data feeds to see if Newstopica (http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=936) can monetize my websites more.

Best regards,
Bangkok Bob

It would be great if you can post the url, or PM me if you prefer not to post.

Great Job! :)
