Subcategories problem (urgent, please help)

i have set 3 with Categries columns in admin cp. but i don't know why it's not work. my phplD version is 2.

btw, there is only three categories in the directory main page, it's fine. but when i surf a category, and subdirectories is more than 3, how to display only 3 subdirectories in a category? thanks. please help.

it's just located in a private net. and the problem like as the below:

Directory > subdirectory

subdirectory 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

links..

i only need to display three columns, like as:

subdirectory 1, 2, 3
subdirectory 4, 5, 6


Content visible to registered users only.

i have told that my web is located in a intranet. and the setting of Categories columns is invliad, i only need to show 3 numbers of Categories columns. my phpld is 2.0, thanks.
