Hello,
I've tried to install this script 2 different ways.
1st -- I downloaded the script -- unzipped it then uploaded it. I found that I had a problem so searching the forums I see that several people had no problem uploading the file and unzipping it on the server.
Since I run a Linux based server, I looked for a tar.gz file and googling found this page that had PHP Link Directory.
http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/WebSVN/
I then uploaded the tarred file and untarred it -- but got the same error.
This is the error --

Is there a place I can just grab this file?
Thanks,
Worthy

To the best of my knowledge, that actual file is not what you need. The problem is often related to some programs changing the capitalization of file names in the Smarty library. Also, if not this, it is almost always some problem during the upload process. Good luck, and if you need professional help, let us know.

/libs/smarty folder
Config_File.class.php
COPYING.lib
debug.pl
Smarty.class.php
Smarty_Compiler.class.php
SmartyValidate.class.php
Now in the subfolders of the smarty folder -- all the files are in lowercase.
Thanks,

Yes, this is good advice. Use Internet Explorer when installing. There seems to be a problem when trying to install using Firefox. If anyone can track down the reason the install fails in Firefox, please let us know.

I've installed a dozen times (3 or 4 versions!) using FF (3 versions including deerpark while it was still ALPHA!) I've never once had a problem install. I honestly do NOT think you can blame this on a browser. It's FAR more likely to be some wonky setting on the host side.
[Alternatively, you ARE running /install/index.php from your browser, right? That's the usual problem when you get this totally useless error message....]

Right, this isn't a browser problem.
No idea why people blame it haha

Just a hint for anyone who has PHP installed as CGI - Do not chmod to 777 it will be the reason things fail!
It is much better to set the permissions to 664 as that is all that is required and things work correctly.
