View Full Version : How sensitive is the recip. link?

In phpLD I can specify that a recip. link back is required. The SW automatically specifies the HTML code for this on the application form.
When phpLD periodically checks if the link back is still present, does it merely look for a link back to the specified URL or does it insist that the link back take the form of the specified HTML code? In other words, if there is a link back, but it is in a different format (e.g. with anchor text) will the link check fail?

I would be surprised if it does check for the anchor text, but the best way is to try it out...... it takes 10 minutes to install and if you are serious about your directory, i think testing the script before the public release of your directory is rather important anyway.

It seems to be pretty precise. If I go into admin and turn on RECIP. LINK REQUIRED for link submission, it will only accept the link if there is a perfect match to the link code (including an exact match to the link-id and an exact match to the link anchor text). At least I've figured out how to add the anchor text.
One thing I still haven't figured out. If I turn off RECIP LINK REQUIRED in the link submission, but then do an EDIT LINKS to specify that a link back is required, there does not seem to be any way to find out what the link back code should be. Obvioiusly I know the link back anchor text and URL, but not the link-id code. Any suggestions?

The ID seems to be annoying for most, if you disable it than you wont need to worry about what it is for those chosen required links.

Ah, excellent suggestion. I'll try that.
What is the down-side to disabling the ID? It must be there for a purpose, so what do I lose when I turn it off?

Hey Doug :) I don't know why but I've always liked Doug's, good people you are.
Well honestly, I don't think the side to things of why it was added in the first place was ever finished. No one has ever told me why exactly they made it into the script.
I personally run with them disabled.
:) Have a great evening.
