I host two sites on one account and recieved a message from my host saying that I've been use an excessive amount of resources. I know it's not my forum, so that narrows it down to two things: anonymous proxy service and my link directory. Do link directories cause huge amounts of CPU usage? Supposedly my account is using 23% of the CPU and I'm only allowed <10. I'm thinking it's the proxy, but would that really send me over the limit by so much?

Content visible to registered users only.
I'm not sure. I did receive an email from some high school student complaining when I removed it, so it may be that it's used throughout the schools. You can bypass filters and blockers with proxies, so that may be it.

Lunarpages has asked me to fix the problem or move to a dedicated plan. If I don't get the problem fixed then I'm screwed. There's no way I can afford $100 a month. I can't even afford $8 a month!

Pull the proxy to see ....how much transfer is it moving? I got a buddy who runs one that uses google ads to pay for the dedicated server and he has had to upgrade the server. That is why I say it is the proxy. Your lucky they even let you run a proxy on a shared server with me you would have to get a vps or dedicated.

Thanks Dawzz! I deleted the proxy service about 1.5 days ago. Last night I contaced them and told what steps I had taken to correct the problem. I'm hoping they can get back to me quickly, as I only have 5 more days to do something:(

Dawzz, after removing the proxy service my usage went from 23% to .5%.... Pretty amazing, but I don't see why a proxy service causes such high usage:confused:

It actually retrieves the webpages and then sends it thru your server to the surfer. If you have a few people doing this and depending on the sites etc then yeah it can put a huge strain on it.

Like I said I have a buddy who runs one on its own dedicated server (high end) that pays for itself plus some off of google adsense.
