Hello,
I just installed the latest version of the Php Link Dirtectory and went through the installation, the DB installed correctly and i added the correct user name and password that i chose and then after a successful install I attempted to login with my correct user name and pass to the admin center and it keeps saying "invalid user name or password" every time. I tried to reinstall the script and DB and tried it again and again it says the same. I even renamed the install folder and still no luck.

If haven't already tried, use Internet Explorer

There are two separate username/password input sections during the install: the first one is for the DATABASE username and password; the next page asks for your ADMIN username and password.
The difference is that the DATABASE pair is provided by your webhost; you provide the others. Make sure you are trying to login with the ADMIN pair, and not your DATABASE pair....

If you continue to have problems yell and I'll take a look at your install.
Best wishes

Hi!
I am having the same problem. I have set up my username, password and database name from my cpanel.
But when I try to install, I seem to also get this message
'An error occured while connecting to the database. Please check your database username and password.
If you require help with your database server settings, please consult your hosting company.
The database server returned the following message:
Access denied for user 'links'@'heat.securenet-server.net' (using password: YES)'
Please advice and help.
Thank you in advance.

This is all info for your DB, and has nothing to do with logging into your admin panel. Make sure when you installed the software you put these details in the right fields.
Your database host name (where the database is located) is: heat.securenet-server.net
Your username to access the database is: links
Your password to access the database is yes (HIGHLY recommend you change that now ;) )
During the install, you get asked to create a username and password to log into the Admin panel. This is not (and should not) be the same as your DB un & p.
If you did all this and still get an error, make sure you gave 'links' rights to read/write stuff in the DB. I know from experience that can be frustrating to find later.

Content visible to registered users only.
The message that you received above can also happen if if you did not assign the db username to the database.
1st you create the database
2nd you create a db username and password
3rd you assign that username to that database.
In your cpanel, click on your MySQL Databases link.. and make sure that database shows a user. If it does you will see:
Content visible to registered users only.
If it doesn't you need to do this prior to running the phplinkdirectory install...
You will see the usernames list box and next to it the database names list box. Select the appropriate names in each of these for your links database, tick "ALL" and then click on the "Add user to db" button. Run your install again.
If it does already show a user assigned to that db, then you should be able to get your correct information right there.. remember that in cpanel it autmatically tends to assign your "cpanel login name" and places it before the db name and the db username with an underscore in between... ALL of that (underscore included) is your db name and db username.. and it all has to be entered during the install
Example:
Domain Name: blah.com (cpanel log in supplied by your host would be blah)
Database Name: blah_yourdbname (whatever name you gave it)
Database Username: blah_yourdbusername (the password you assigned)
Hope that helps, if not.. just ignore me... ;)
