Hey jminscoe,
60000? Not recommended at all.
You may get a hefty slap from Google, and a ban wouldn't do you any good.
Man, I just really don't know what to say.
yktan? David?
I personally would never try updating all those at once. Maybe 200 a day, sure. Not all.
That's me.
Best wishes to you :)

For a large directory, there is really no method that Google would be too happy about. I agree with Casey that you may want to just do a few per day. You might also want to consider just how important pagerank is to you.
I will tell you that I do have some plans for a pretty cool method for ranking sites in your directory, but it will likely be a couple of months still.

So, validating the links is actually the only method to update PR shown besides links in the directory?

I am in talking about in phpmyadmin PLD_LInks
Field Type Null Default
PAGERANK int(11) No -1
RECPR_PAGERANK int(11) No -1

I've seen those values also. I believe this means no value was retrieved.
Ex. was a new site and google did not have a value.

Sorry if hijacking this topic.
But, how do you do to update indicated PageRankings besides the links in the directory?

Content visible to registered users only.
I agree with Casey. It's going to be really bad if you get banned by Google.

Even "200 a day" is going to give google et al fits. A "normal" site, one where content is the point (as opposed to sites which only "farm" links in the hundreds or thousands) would be looked at askance if it had more than 10 new links a day.
That's the whole problem with the "import from DMOZ" mod or others like it. The main thing with any site is content - RELEVANT content. If relevant content on your site is links to "relevant content" that's fine. But believe me when I tell you that google et al WILL know if you're importing wholesale from DMOZ etc. in a thinly disguised attempt to garner pagerank....

Often what I do on my directory is carefully review a different category each week. I go through most of the site in the category and make chages to titles and descriptions. As I do this, it also updates the pagerank.
I don't think there is a good method available to update the pagerank for the entire directory at one time. One thing we could do it add a method to update the pagerank for multiple listings manually. For example we could create a form that shows all the links from a category. You would click on each link, view the pagerank, and then input this on the form. Then click enter after you have updated the category.
Unfortunately, google's terms of service specifically do not allow automated checks for rank.
Responding to vkaryl's last post, I want to agree in saying that importing DMOZ will probably not do too much with regard to gaining pagerank or indexed pages (but may help a little). If you do the DMOZ import, you need to find a way to add quality or content, above and beyond what is found on DMOZ.
