Default Question about article images (thumbnails)

How does phpLD Article display images when viewing a list of articles? Do images display as thumbnails?

Example: htt p://w ww.delightfulblogs.com/Sports_and_Hobbies/

I know that that link is to a page running phpLD, but I like how there is a thumbnail image to the left of each listing. Is that possible in phpLD Article, if the article includes one or more images?

What if the 'image' is a YouTube or BrightCove video? Is there anyway to display a thumnail of the video in the 'list' of articles?

Thanks!

(note: I had to break up the URL above, since the system won't let me post live links)

What you posted as an example is thumbshots provided by a 3rd party that is retireved based on the link's url. Right now no there is no option for a "link" image for the list of articles.

Code:
Content visible to registered users only.
The image doesn't have to 'link' to anything (except the article it's associated with). It just has to be visible in the list.

Here's another example: h ttp://ww w.theweighwewere.com/index.php?category=3&pg=5

In the center column, notice that the image to the left of the article excerpt is a thumbnail of the 1st image within the article. That's what I'm looking for in phpLD article.

ETA
Perfect example of a VIDEO thumbnail list:

htt p://w ww.brightcove.tv/buzz.jsp?catId=200009

Notice how clicking on the thumbnail of the video, takes the visitor to the 'article entry' containing the full video and entry text.

That sounds like an interesting thing to do. How would we handle an article that contains no images?

Either put a 'default/no image' image OR put no image at all (just leave a space there.

Make it happen, David, make it happen!

Example of listings with NO image (in the center column, you'll see some 'with' images, and some without): h ttp://ww w.theweighwewere.com/index.php?category=3&pg=28

We fully understand what you are saying ...... no need to keep posting examples.

It is not a matter of how many sites have or dont have it.

It is a matter of deciding the best way of adding it (for both admin and frontend) and the time/security involved to do it.

Patience will get you a long way when asking for modifications or script additions.

I'm sorry if I gave any indication of a 'rush' on my end. I'm not in any hurry.

Regarding examples...I thought I was being helpful by posting specific examples in response to David's question. Sorry if I offended you and the team.

I always feel it's better to err on the side of specific examples rather than vague descriptions.

If there are are specific rules about how/when to post questions, please direct me there...I'd hate to upset you further by giving the wrong impressions.
Lastly, I'm unclear as to your comment about how the 'number' of sites relates to whether or not thumbnails are possible.

No offense was taken

I meant it doesn't matter how many sites on the net has images or not.

I understand your desire to be clear about it. I guess where I am coming across as brash I should just say

It is noted and hopefully we can incorporate it into the script at a later date.

But then I wouldnt be me

let me say I appreciate the idea and think it will enhance the script.

With that said there are several factors to consider and it may take a bit of time for it to show up in the script itself.

Just so you know. I really don't set out to come across as rude but my personality is pretty raw

Ask David he has spoken with me on the phone LOL

I understand that.

The examples were simply offered as a visual of how I would need it to appear within a phpLD intallation - nothing more. (And in response to David's question, I posted a link to show what listings 'without' an image could look like.)

The time of development of certain mods will determine which sites I plan and launch first...that's why I was asking. It wasn't an effort to 'rush' anyone.

In order to manage my projects I need to have a clear idea of what's possible and what's not (and when).

Basic project management.

I think we are coming from two totally different angles in this discussion.

I think you are approaching it from the initial question of how does it show images which the answer to it is

it doesn't.

and i am coming from the 'good idea, like it a lot, no idea when it will be added' direction.

The rest is all just examples and idea tossing.

I understand your perspective that 'officially' this function doesn't exist, and it's not on deck.

If it's ok with you, however, in an effort to move the discussion forward, I'd like to keep tossing examples and ideas for those who would like to discuss it.

Sure toss them around .... as long as everyone is understood that right now it is in idea phase and not in dev phase.

you would be suprised at what conclusions are drawn by people but then again maybe you wouldn't.

If you are looking for examples if you will try to find some widely different ones that I can look at

Wow, seems like I missed out on the fun this afternoon.
Let me give my thoughts a little more. As we have requests made by users of the product, we want to do our part to understand the most desired requests, and get them done if possible.

Sometimes customers want something fast and are willing to pay for custom work on their site, and if the dev team has some free hours, we will help people directly in this way.

I'm hoping at some date in the not too distant future we will have a good idea of the biggest requests, and then we can start into a new release for phpLD Article, which seems to be getting a decent response so far.
