Be aware that if you use Raid for hardware redundancy (if 1 disk dies, you loose no data, just plug in another drive and let it rebuild the volume) your effective storage capacity will really be 3TB. BTW, I always choose Raid and sacrifice the capacity. One of my drives went belly up recently and I replaced it with no problems. ![]() I use a Synology NAS with a couple of 3TB drives: http://www.synology.com/products/pro...DS212j&lang=us Not only am I using it as a storage server for all of my Macs and PCs, but it also serves movies to my home theater setup, provides an iTunes library of music to all my computers, and I have a home surveillance camera set up with it. I'm in the process now of setting it up as my home network web server for development and testing, etc. Oh, and I also backup everything from my NAS to an external 3TB drive monthly and keep that offsite at my office in case my NAS blows up or other catastrophe. Think I'm paranoid about losing my data? ![]() Joe |

However, you can build you own array using standard drives and it would be a lot cheaper seeing as you can now get a 1,5Tb drived for less than $100.. I've currently got just under 4Tb connected to my laptop when at home (with oinly about 40Gb spare. I just have my drives stacked on top of each other in the open with a desxtop fan cooling them,. but you can do it properly using a standard PC box with the built in fans.
