However, I do reckon a lot of it scare-mongering (Remember Milenium bug, 11-11-11 etc etc). Been loads of these types of stories, but none ever materialise (he says, putting hand to head [touch wood])

I mean who gets a virus that was put out almost 5 years ago....

I bet bottom dollar there will be a TON of people calling their isp's complaining.

They do have a pretty good idea how many just from looking at the logs of the dns servers.

pft..yeah it's called people with kids or people viewing p***! Or idiots that download torrents or illegal material (which hey, they deserve it) without checking them....

I have no clue what sites my daughter goes to but this is the 5th time I've had virus' on my pc...atm I can only work using safemode because something's hijacked all my exe files....so here in about an hour once all my pictures are uploaded to my bf's pc I get to wipe my laptop and start again.

I have cleaned up friends pc's just to have them return sometimes the next day saying it is still messed up when I look at their history alone you can clearly see where they get it or they for some reason believe every email they have in their inbox needs opened, read and then you must click on the links to see what goodies can be found. I stopped working on friends junk for free because they just don't get it and am tired of telling them how to avoid the mess.

On the 5 year old virus thingy. It is amazing even when you have their software set to receive updates and they don't even click the update button when prompted it just continues to run in the background using up more resources all while they get another virus or spyware that the update could have prevented and this will go on for a year or two then they bring their pile of junk in once again for you to fix.

I don't even mess with it any more. I make an image of their install, when I fix it the first time, and only do a fresh install anymore. Not even worried about saving files, I just tell them if they don't start taking responsibility for their junk I cannot be responsible for it either. Charge the same no matter if it is just a simple fix or not (on the idiots that is). They all get the, SORRY! gotta reinstall because you are an idiot and lazy, its your money and I am just the guy to collect your moron tax.... approach...

Hmmm... I recall a thread just a few days ago talking about that same percentile of the population that makes you stare in disbelief while shaking head slowly.......

i thit had it to last month and mcafee couldt not find it but i reinstall my windows compleet so it is gone

and to give a respons to a 5 year old virus
i know 1 and mcaffe or norton stil dont have a respons to it
something like protect it is a a so call virus scanner but infact it instal on y pc with out y and than shut down everything including mcaffe the only way to get that compleet from y systeem is to reinstall
