Quality SubmissionsDirectory Submitters

Looking at our stats, I can see there are many people who are trying to find a tool, script, or software to submit their site to 100s of directories.

Is this a good idea? Let’s examine this...

There has been some conflicting information coming from SEO companies and even Google about submitting your site to directories. Google has maintained for a long time that submitting to directories is a great way to get your site on the map, and we agree, but there are some important considerations you should make or else the results you get may be the opposite of what you are looking for!

Listings in well maintained directories can be extremely valuable in terms of getting your site ranked. There are people who dedicate a good portion of their lives to maintaining directories, both adding listings themselves, and receiving directory submissions from site owners that would like to be included. The more popular and well maintained directories generally have some spam controls that help prevent robotic submissions, and phpLD (our script that we offer on this site), has many such anti-spam tools built into the software.

helpful hintIf you are wondering if a specific directory is high quality, take a look and see if they are following quality guidelines, and in general look at their links and see for yourself if you think they are good sites.

Lower quality directories are plentiful and can get you in trouble with google. Many of them have no anti-spam control and they allow for robotic directory submitter tools to add links to their directory, resulting in what is known as a “link farm”. When you submit your site using a directory submitter tool to hundreds of directories, there is a high probability in the near future you will be receiving an unnatural linking penalty from Google.

It doesn’t have to be this way! Seek out well maintained directories, as a link from them has a value, and you will see benefits in the search engines, and maybe some traffic too! So remember, directory submitter tools = bad, and quality directories = good!
