Just today in a video, Matt is talking about how they are incorporating Twitter and Facebook into their rankings

Some interesting points worth studying:
1. They are more using these "social signals" for real time results, but are studying how they will incorporate this more into overall algorithm.
2. The reputation of an author matters. So going out and getting followers like you get links may not be a good idea. You may also want to refrain from tweeting stuff massively, rather than choosing some well written articles or special links, and sharing only them.
3. If google can't crawl a page, they can't assign pagerank. I think he is talking about Facebook here, because much of their site is closed off.
I just want to continue to encourage people to use twitter and follow each other, but also I hope people won't spam it, but basically post interesting stuff so that people keep wanting to follow you, and we build a network. Here is a thread devoted to that

We would be happy to follow you.
